Pentair launches a new salt chlorine generator. Now, consumers have questions about how good this product is going to be. The IntellicChlor IC40 has been one of the bestselling salt cells on the market. How does the new IntelliChlor Plus & LT compare and replace.
The following answers all the top questions. The questions and answers are designed for the homeowner. Many consumers will need to replace their current salt cell. Armed with most current information, consumers can make the best choices for their individual pool needs.
1. Can the salt chlorine generator (SCG) units be installed vertically or horizontally?
Yes, the units can be installed either vertically or horizontally. For detailed instructions, refer to the Installation and Maintenance Guide.
2. Is this new unit the same length (plumbing wise) as the current IntelliChlor generators?
The IntelliChlor LT15, LT25, and Plus30 generators match the iChlor Salt Chlorine Generator (SCG) form factor, while the IntelliChlor Plus40 and Plus60 generators match the current IntelliChlor generator's length. Please consult the operator's manual for precise dimensions.
3. Will a pool's plumbing have to be changed to accommodate the new Salt Cells if I have used the previous IntelliChlor or iChlor models?
No, the new family of SCGs is designed to retrofit existing IntelliChlor or iChlor plumbing without requiring changes.
4. Are the new models compatible with the PowerCenter PC100?
Yes, all new units (LT15, LT25, Plus30, Plus40, and Plus60) are compatible with the PowerCenter PC100 using the same connector as former iChlor and IntelliChlor SCGs.
5. What is the cleaning process for the IntelliChlor Plus/LT SCGs?
Each unit includes an acid washing kit for easy cleaning. Specific instructions can be found in the Installation and Maintenance Guide.
6. How should the IntelliChlor Plus & LT System be maintained?
For maintenance guidelines, please refer to the Installation and Maintenance Guide.
7. What options are offered for winterization?
We offer spacer cells (two length options) to install in place of the salt chlorine generators during the winter months. Refer to replacement part 523102 for LT15, LT25, and Plus30 units, and 520588 for Plus40 and Plus60 units.
8. How does the unit alert a user that the cell needs to be cleaned?
The system generates a WARNING message: "SYS OFF CHK CELL" or "CHK MANL INSPECT." For further details, refer to the Installation and Maintenance Guide.
9. How does the unit alert a user that the blades have worn out?
The system will display a WARNING message: "SYS OFF CHK CELL." An acid clean is recommended after this message appears. If the warning persists after cleaning, the blades need replacement. Refer to the Installation and Maintenance Guide for part numbers based on the model.
10. How does the Boost function work? Can the Boost time be changed?
To activate the Boost Time, simply press the "BOOST" button. This will set the unit to operate at 100% output for 24 hours. If you need to cancel the boost mode before the full period is up, just press and hold the "BOOST" button again.
11. What happens if the salinity level is too low? What is the ideal salt level?
If the salt level drops below 3,000 ppm, the unit will display a "WARNING: ADD SALT" message. Below 2,600 ppm, it will shut off and show "SYS OFF LOW SALT." The ideal salt level is 3,600 ppm, which you can verify using the Salinity Calculator on www.pentair.com.
12. What electrical power source can be used for the new IntelliChlor series?
The LT15 generator is compatible with both the new LT15 PowerPack and the PC100, while other units work only with the existing PC100. The input operating voltage range is 115VAC and 230VAC +/- 10%.
13. What is the pool water temperature limit on the new series?
The system must operate with water temperatures above 52°F (11°C). If the temperature falls below this, the unit will shut off and display "SYS OFF LOW TEMP." A warning will appear at 60°F (15°C) indicating "LOW TEMP."
14. Are the interfaces identical between all models?
Yes, all models of the LT and Plus SCGs feature the same interface and capabilities, ensuring a consistent user experience across different units.
15. How should a high salt level in the pool be addressed?
If your pool has a high salt level, dilute it by partially draining and refilling with fresh water until it reaches 3,600 ppm. Make sure the salt level is within the recommended range before restarting the system.
16. What Pentair automation solutions are compatible with the new IntelliChlor series?
The IntelliChlor Plus and LT SCGs can connect with other Pentair automation systems like IntelliCenter, IntelliConnect, and IntellipH Systems, as well as legacy systems such as IntelliSync, SunTouch, EasyTouch, and IntelliTouch.
17. What maintenance is required for the IntelliChlor units?
Regular maintenance includes checking salt levels, cleaning the cell as needed, and ensuring that the unit is functioning correctly. Refer to the Installation and Maintenance Guide for detailed instructions.
18. Can the chlorine output be adjusted when connected to an automation system?
No, when connected to an automation system, chlorine output cannot be adjusted at the IntelliChlor HMI. Please check the operator's manual for more details on automation integration.
19. What is SmartSense? Is it available in all models?
SmartSense is a feature in all models that automatically adjusts chlorine production when connected to an IntelliFlo pool pump or pool cover. It includes SmartSense Flow Detection and SmartSense Pool Cover Detection.
20. What is the minimum and maximum flow before the unit shuts off?
The minimum flow required to activate the flow switch is 25 GPM (94.6 LPM), and the maximum flow is 80 GPM (302.8 LPM). For flow rates above 80 GPM, a bypass is recommended for optimal flow sensing.
21. How does the system handle scale build-up?
All units feature built-in polarity reversal every 3 hours to minimize scale build-up, similar to the legacy iChlor and IntelliChlor models. Water hardness can affect scale formation, so regular checks are recommended.
22. What could cause low or no chlorine production?
Low or no chlorine production can occur due to various factors such as low SCG output settings, insufficient run time, environmental impacts, or dirty cell blades. Refer to the Installation and Maintenance Guide for troubleshooting.
23. What is the ideal salt level for the SCGs?
The ideal salt level for optimal operation of the new salt chlorine generators is 3,600 ppm, as indicated on the HMI.
24. Why are voltage and amperage showing values of 0?
The voltage and amperage values will only display when the unit is actively chlorinating. If the unit is powered but not chlorinating, these values will show as 0.
25. Why does the water temperature differ between the salt cell display and the Pentair Pool App?
The temperature displayed by the salt cell reflects the local water temperature at the sensor's location, which may differ from the more accurate readings provided by the heater or other systems.
